In 2008 at the World Future Energy Summit, H. H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the UAE, announced the Zayed Future Energy Prize to honour his father, the late Sheikh Zayed's legacy of environmental stewardship.
The annual USD 4 million prize recognises noteworthy projects and the brains behind them across various pillars of society: from large corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, non-governmental and not-for-profit organisations and individuals who have dedicated their lifetime towards sustainability, to high schools around the world that have actively moulded their learning environments and curricula around green principles.
It was emerged as the world's pre-eminent award for innovation in renewable energy and sustainability. Since its inception, the prize has recognised almost 90 innovators making a mark in the field of global sustainability.
Launched in 2022, ‘Research and Innovation Award’ from Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) aims to provide award those people who provide innovative solutions to challenges in energy, water, infrastructure, transport and housing.

and individual researchers and experts.
To mark Emirati Children’s Day, observed every year on 15 March, Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in partnership with the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, rolled out the Children’s Environment Award to promote the engagement of the young generation in bringing environmental sustainability.
The competition is open to all UAE citizens and residents falling in one of the two age groups: 8 to 12 years and 13 to 17 years. The award comprises five categories. They are: Educational Video, Awareness Campaign, Technical or Scientific Project, Short Story and Artwork.
The ‘UAE Energy Management Award IS0 50001’ is a local version of the global ‘Energy Management Leadership Award’, an initiative of the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), which promotes the development of clean energy and energy efficiency programmes.
MoEI supports the efforts of clean energy transformation by offering the local award ‘UAE Energy Management Award IS0 50001’ annually, in cooperation with CEM.
Any organisation holding a current ISO 50001certificate from an accredited certification body is eligible to apply for both, the global and local awards. The applicant must submit a structured case study about its energy management experience and the resulting benefits while applying.
The Emirates Appreciation Award for the Environment (EAAE) was established in 2011 to recognise and promote the values of sustainable living and environmentally-conscious initiatives among the UAE’s society. It also promotes pioneering contributions in the field of the environment and sustainable development at the national level.
In 2012, Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai established Emirates Energy Award (EEA) as a regional, biannual prize awarded to encourage the rationalised use of energy and resources. The award recognises the efforts of the public and private sectors across the region in energy efficiency, energy projects and energy research.
The Sharjah Environment Awareness Award (SEAA) is an ongoing competition launched by Bee’ah in 2010 aiming to increase environmental awareness among students in nurseries and in kindergarten to Grade 12, encourage the youth to actively participate in environmental activities within their school systems and promote self-initiatives.
The Sharjah Sustainability Award (SSA) emerged in 2011 to recognise the importance of wild life protection and biodiversity conservation in the emirate of Sharjah.
The Zayed International Prize for the Environment was founded in 1999 to recognise and encourage environmental achievements supporting and promoting the UN objectives for the third millennium, promote sustainable development through various environmental initiatives and increase environmental awareness.
