The litigation procedures in the UAE are governed by federal laws and depend on whether the case is of civil or criminal nature.
Civil procedures are regulated by Federal Decree by Law No. 42 of 2022 Promulgating the Civil Procedure Code. The law applies to civil procedures before the courts in the UAE.
It regulates the method, procedures and jurisdiction for litigations in civil, commercial and personal status lawsuits. It establishes the method of appealing and executing the judgements.
The law mentions provisions for using remote communication technology in civil procedures.
Federal Decree by Law No. 38 of 2022 Promulgating the Criminal Procedures Law applies to the procedures relating to the offences punishable under the Law of Crimes and Penalties and other penal codes.
